Modeling of Queue Detector Location at Signalized Roundabouts via VISSIM Micro-Simulation Software in Amman City, Jordan

The growing number of vehicles in Jordan has contributed to traffic congestion, particularly at roundabouts. Roundabouts deflect high volumes flow. To improve the performance roundabouts, it is necessary consider impact all components on conditions, especially delay, queue length, and level service (LOS), reduce congestion enhance efficiency sustainability, etc. This study aims (a) identify optimal detector locations approaches two selected roundabouts Amman, Jordan, using micro-simulation (VISSIM) supported by programming (Python) software, (b) validate simulated models with best LOS. Traffic geometric data (Prince Faisal Bin al-Hussein, fifth; Prince Rashid Hassan, sixth roundabouts) were used for simulation purposes. (across 15 distinct scenarios various distances) standard (base scenario, 50 m from stop line) assessed placement. model validation was made based including signalized non-signalized best-case scenario location determined highway capacity manual (HCM) criteria measurement effectiveness (MOE) measured duration delay (seconds), average length (m), detector’s observed be 97 roundabout line. It can (or speed up flow) 85.25%. reduced 76.76%. LOS F status improved D. Overall, application adaptive signal detectors appropriate crucial imbalanced flow while reducing delays.
